The Girl's Track Team started off their season at the Ralston Valley Meet this past Friday. The meet got off to a strong start with two Gators placing in the first race of the night. Anna Nelson '17 and Veronica Petrillo '18 placed six (2:37.93) and seventh (2:39.29) in that race respectively. Petrillo's time was a personal record (PR) which is a great feat for the first meet of the season.
Jackie Paik '16 also provided another proud Gator moment when she tied for second in the high jump with an effort of 4-06. This was her first time competing in this event. Savannah Martin '18 placed in her first ever shot put competition, throwing 28-03.5 for seventh place.
Emma Abernethy '17 and Nelson showed some Gator strength running the 3200M together to finish easily in 2nd (13:12.85) and 3rd (13:13.03). Abernethy also added a second place finish in the 1600M (5:48.03). Nelson finished 6th in that race (5:58.83).
As it was the first meet of the season, PRs were hard to come by. But Sadie Heffelman '17 and Britta Swanson '18 joined Petrillo in achieving best times. Heffelman PRed in both the 100 (13.99) and 200 (29.48) while Swanson PRed in the 100 (14.70).
Overall the Gators placed 6th out of 14 teams with 38.33 points.
The Gators take to the track again this Wednesday for some early season Jeffco League action against Arvada, Arvada West, Bear Creek, D'Evelyn, Evergreen, Golden and Ralston Valley.
