Tuesday's Gator Win was a total team effort. (Photo courtesy of Aaron Smith)
The young Gator Girl's varsity cross country team consists of three sophomores and four freshman. They used that varsity experience when they competed against some of the area's best underclassman talent at the Pat Amato Freshman Sophomore Invitational, winning the team title with 60 points over Rocky Mountain which claimed second with 72 points.
The team came to win and every single girl ran a personal record (PR.) The Pat Amato course tends to run fast, but this year--due to recent rain--the ground was wet and spongy which should have slowed it down. The Gator Girls refused to let that affect them. Emma Abernethy '17 claimed second place with 20:21. Anna Nelson '17 grabbed the other Gator trophy with a 20:44 for fifth. Emma Smith '18 ran to 14th place with a 21:47, Caitlin Adams '18 ran 22:11 for 17th, Mone Mondragon '18 ran 22:40 for 22nd, Veronica Petrillo '18 ran 24:48 for 29th and Hayley Davis' 17 ran a 26:02 for 39th. It was a great day to be a part of this team. These girls are running ten minutes faster than last year's team with the post-season upon them.
The girls will be back to this same course on Friday when they run the varsity version of this meet.
