From the Denver Post:
The Standley Lake Gators Varsity Football defeated the Wheat Farmers (4-3, 1-1) in a wild comeback from 24 points down.
In the 1st quarter, the Gators surrended 32 points including a touchdown on the first play of the game and seemed to be on the way to a mercy-rule loss. "Winning or losing, the worst quarter I've ever been associated with," Gators coach Don Morse said.
The Gators had 2 touchdowns called back for penalties at the end of the game. After the Gators did not convert a PAT and twice were denied on 2 point attempts, the Gators scored a winning field goal by Connor Durant (who also caught two touchdowns) with 23.6 seconds from 40 yards. The Gators held the Farmers to 3 points in the 2nd half.
Fullback John Ruiz-Perez rushed for 3 touchdowns.
"It's such a mental game, and the coaches were telling the kids not to look at the scoreboards. ...Every week is like the playoffs for us, so, hopefully, we can piece it together," said Morse.
The Gators improve to 3-4 and 1-1 in the league.
