SLHS Girl's Cross Country has an interesting team this year. They are comprised of three sophomores (two returning, one new) and four freshmen. This past Saturday, they took to the D'Evelyn high school course for a scrimmage with ~50 teams from other schools. No official times or places were kept, but these "little" girls sent a big message.
Emma Abernethy, '17, led the way finishing near the top of the field. Anna Nelson, '17, wasn't far behind. Both sophomores are already running on par with their season bests from last year. Emma Smith, '18, showed she had a huge kick passing LOTS of runners at the end. Mone Mondragon '18 made a statement only having been with the team a short time. Caitlin Adams, '18, showed heart running tough with a knee injury and Hayley Davis, '17, showed courage taking to the line for her first cross country race after only a week of practice. Even though the girls team is made up of all underclassmen, they still ran almost 10 minutes better than the team did last year.
The SLHS girls start their official season on September 6th at the Centaurus Invite.

The SLHS boy's cross country team showed a promising start (as well as excellent fashion design prowess) at the D'Evelyn Scrimmage. No official times or places were kept, but the boy's ran strong. Sophomore Trevor Smith led the way, already exceeding his PR from last year. Senior Ryan Seberg was close behind. As with the girl's team, the boy's team is relatively young and their next four runners were all freshman or sophomores. This group included Lukas Klarich '17, Evan Luebbert '17, Eli Student '18 and Jared Linford '18. Senior Duncan Tillman rounded out the top seven. With 5 of the top 7 runners being underclassmen, this team has an exciting future.
SLHS boys will officially start their season on September 6th at the Centaurus Invite.
